Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture, Erice (Italy)

EMFCSC

The Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture (EMFCSC) is an international organization dedicated to the Italian physicist Ettore Majorana, whose disappearance is still one of the greatest Italian mysteries. Founded in Geneva in 1962 by the physicist Antonino Zichichi, the following year the Center found its most suitable location in the suggestive town of Erice, near the city of Trapani, within the once-upon-a-time convents of San Domenico and San Francis. Antonino Zichichi is the ongoing President of the Centre.

The Centre is associated with the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) and gives financial support to the International School of Subnuclear Physics, that sees Zichichi as its Director. During the cold war, the Majorana Centre saw the extraordinary event of Russian and American scientists getting together. Since its conception, the Majorana Centre has seen 76 scientists being awarded the Nobel Prize.
